Imagine yourself as a shrewd merchant in the 3rd century AD, operating in the heart of the Middle East. The setting is Resafa, which back then wasn't just ruins in modern-day Syria, but a vital fortified outpost for caravans crossing the desert. The challenge is real: water is gold. Since the region lacks natural springs, you must manage cisterns to capture winter and spring rainfall, building canals to distribute this vital resource. Without water, nothing happens.
But the game isn't just about survival; it's about prosperity. You'll travel between cities, buying and selling goods to expand your business empire. To grow, you must build workshops, which allow you to collect resources and, of course, camels—the logistical engine of the era. If you want to climb the victory ladder, the trick is to invest in gardens between your enterprises, which generate both extra resources and precious victory points.
The pace of Resafa is tense and strategic. The game unfolds over six rounds, and the action economy is tight: you have only three actions per round. This means every card played must be calculated with precision. Will you use a card to build, travel, or manage your resources? With multi-use cards and tile placement mechanics, the game requires careful planning to avoid falling behind while your rivals dominate the trade routes. This is an expert-level game where hand management and logistical efficiency decide who will become the greatest merchant of the desert.
