About the game
What you do in a play session
Risk: Game of Thrones brings the iconic power struggle of HBO's series to the tabletop, offering two distinct play lines. On the Westeros map, noble houses—Stark, Lannister, Baratheon and others—battle for the crown during the War of the Five Kings. In Essos, players command Daenerys Targaryen as she seeks to free slave cities and amass an army to retake the Iron Throne. The game features three modes: Skirmish, a streamlined version perfect for newcomers; Dominion, the advanced variant with Character, Maester and Objective cards that grant special abilities and victory‑point goals; and World at War, which merges both boards and supports up to seven players simultaneously. Dominion’s rules add Objective cards worth 1‑4 victory points, making the first player to reach 10 points while holding their Seat of Power the winner. Core mechanics include area movement of armies, area majority/influence control, dice rolling to resolve battles, and player elimination for those who lose all forces. Components consist of two detailed boards, seven themed armies, territory cards, objective cards, character and maester cards, plus castle and port markers. Playtime ranges from two to four hours depending on player count and mode, and the rule weight is moderate, suited for those familiar with classic Risk who want to dive into the Game of Thrones narrative. In short, it’s a thematic war game that blends Risk’s familiar conquest system with the epic storytelling of the series, offering both quick skirmishes and deeper strategic campaigns.
