About the game
What you do in a play session
Seastead drops players into a future where humanity clings to floating platforms on an endless ocean. You and an opponent vie for control of the four flotilla tiles – the last remnants of old Earth – while gathering resources, building structures, and cleaning the sea. Each turn gives you a choice: dive for resources or erect a building from your player mat. Diving means drawing a card that shows two different resource combos; the one you don’t take automatically goes to your rival, creating the classic "I cut, you choose" tension that forces careful strategic picks. Building places a structure on one of the four central flotilla tiles, unlocking abilities and bonuses that can swing the game, but only if you claim them before your opponent does. The tiles are double‑sided, offering alternate building paths and boosting replay value. The game blends straightforward resource allocation with a strong nautical theme, including specialist cards that give flavor to each action. While the mechanics are easy to grasp, the need to balance helping your opponent against your own progress creates a lot of tension and replayability, making it ideal for two players who enjoy quick (≈30 min) and light‑weight (2.8/5 weight) strategy games. Seastead shines for fans of cut‑and‑choose decisions, modular building, and an ocean‑survival setting, without demanding long rulebooks.
