About the game
What you do in a play session
Shadow Agents is a tiny, fast, diceless microgame that pits a secret spy against a master villain in a race against the clock. Each match lasts 10 to 30 minutes and is strictly for two players, making it ideal for quick play sessions or travel. The agent selects one of four operatives, each equipped with spy gear, mission experience, and military training, and must infiltrate the villain's stronghold on the dreaded Skullcrusher Mountain, dodge traps, cameras, and guards, and locate the hidden control room where the doomsday device sits.
On the opposite side, the mastermind has already started the countdown on his apocalyptic weapon. He hides the control room somewhere on the map and fills the lair with traps, sentry guns, guard dogs, and cameras, aiming to capture or block the agent before the objective is reached. The game uses an Action Queue mechanic: both players fill a queue of actions and resolve them in order, creating a tense rhythm and letting each anticipate the opponent's moves.
There are no cards or dice; everything resolves through strategic action choices and positioning. The game ends when the agent enters the control room and disables the device (agent win) or when the villain successfully traps the agent (villain win). Its low weight (1.25/5) makes it approachable for beginners, while the tactical depth of the action queue satisfies seasoned gamers. In short, Shadow Agents packs tension and replayability into a compact, affordable package.
