About the game
What you do in a play session
A few weeks after the Normandy landings, a U.S. Ranger company finds itself lost among the coastal wreckage and must confront an enemy far more sinister than ordinary Nazis: the Cult of the Black Sun. Allied with an ancient tribe of Deep Ones, the cult is preparing a dark ritual to summon Cthulhu, bringing Lovecraftian terror to the World War II theater. Shadows Over Normandy pits three armies – American Rangers, the German Black Sun Cult, and the Deep Ones – under player control. Each side fields infantry, tanks or creatures, plus heroes and villains with unique abilities, represented by sturdy, detailed tokens. The game uses the Heroes System, so the rules feel familiar to Heroes of Normandy fans, yet a match is brisk: 30 minutes for 2‑3 players, with a light weight (≈2.9/5). The board is modular and made of squares, allowing a new terrain layout each game. Movement occurs on a square grid, while combat is resolved with a single six‑sided die, spiced up by action cards that add strategic twists. Order markers set initiative and enable bluffing, forcing opponents to guess your plans. Victory conditions differ by faction: Rangers aim to stop the ritual, the Cult strives to complete it at any cost, and the Deep Ones back the chaos. The blend of horror, warfare, and asymmetric powers yields tense, surprise‑filled rounds, perfect for players who enjoy quick, thematic, and highly interactive games.
