About the game
What you do in a play session
The Dark Apostles expansion adds a fresh, epic showdown to Siege of the Citadel, pitting the Doomtroopers against one of five fearsome Dark Apostles – Ilian, Algeroth, Demnogonis, Muawijhe, or Semai. Each Apostle arrives with a Power Card deck that outlines unique abilities, stats, and the ways they will meddle with the players' actions. The core goal stays the same: eliminate the threat before time runs out, but now the team must also deplete the Power Card deck to finally defeat the chosen Apostle. These cards bring a mix of devastating attacks and modifiers that alter dice outcomes, forcing the group to constantly adapt its tactics.
The game retains its cooperative nature and dice‑rolling core, while the modular board can be rearranged to reflect different battlefields. Each player still commands a Doomtrooper with a distinct power, emphasizing the need for synergy among varied abilities. New components include detailed miniatures of the Apostles and fresh tokens representing resources and specific penalties introduced by the expansion. Playtime can swing from about 60 to 120 minutes, depending on player count (1‑5) and which Apostle is faced, but the experience remains fluid and tense, with the pressure to exhaust the power deck before the villain becomes unstoppable. Overall, Dark Apostles layers extra challenge and narrative depth onto the base game, perfect for fans of Mutant Chronicles’ grim setting who crave more strategic variety.
