Space Marine

Space Marine plunges you headfirst into the grim and futuristic Warhammer 40,000 universe, standing as a classic miniatures wargame that defined an era. Released in 1989 by Games Workshop, it was the flagship of the company's 'Epic' line, focusing on 6mm scale miniatures, much smaller than the standard. The game had two main editions, both sold as boxed sets packed with rules, scenery, and enough miniatures to assemble two armies and start the war immediately.

The first edition, subtitled 'Epic Battles in the Age of Heresy', takes us to a period preceding what we know of Warhammer 40,000, focusing on a brutal civil war between the Space Marines themselves. Interestingly, this version could be combined with the already existing Adeptus Titanicus, which brought the imposing Titans (giant mechs) to the battlefield, maintaining the same scale. Over time, Ork and Eldar models were also added, with their rules detailed in the Codex Titanicus expansion.

The second edition, named 'Epic Conflict in the War Torn Universe of the 41st Millennium', brought the setting into the standard Warhammer 40,000 era that we all love. Although it underwent a significant revision, the core system remained intact, unlike later editions of the Epic series. This version already included Orks, Eldar, and Titans in the basic rules, and subsequent expansions further expanded these factions, introducing some new ones. Space Marine is a treat for anyone who enjoys massive miniature battles and deep immersion in the Warhammer 40,000 lore.
