Sparks is a two‑player duel where each player controls a color—white or black—and tries to place their piece on the top of the pyramid to win. The board is a small 4×4 grid filled with white and black balls in an alternating pattern, and there are 14 red balls (the “sparks”) kept in reserve. On each turn, the active player removes a ball of their own color that isn’t pinned (i.e., it doesn’t support more than one piece above) and places it in hand along with a spark from the reserve. If the removed ball was free, the player places it anywhere on the board and the spark stays in hand for later use. If the ball was pinned, it drops into its spot, freeing space; in this case, the spark returns to the reserve and the player only places the removed ball. When a solid ball drops, the player can then place both the spark and the ball in hand in any order. The goal is to be the one who places the last piece of their color on the top layer of the pyramid—the “flame”—and win the game.

The game is quick (15 minutes), demands careful positioning and the concept of “area majority,” as controlling more spaces at the base gives more move options. Though simple, Sparks blends positional strategy with a touch of luck in the choice of available pieces, creating short, intense matches that are a great warm‑up or a challenge between friends.
