About the game
What you do in a play session
Hey everyone! If you're already into Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery and think things could get even more chaotic and full of intrigue, hold on tight: the House Calavius expansion is here to spice things up!
This little gem adds the powerful House of Magistrate Calavius to the game, bringing new possibilities and making the rivalries even fiercer. Just imagine: another powerful family entering the fray for power in Capua, which means more twists, more tense negotiations, and, of course, more opportunities for you to send your gladiators to the arena and watch the circus catch fire.
With House Calavius, you gain a new potential player, which can completely change the game dynamics. Additionally, it introduces the 'tokens of ostentation,' those shiny bits that make you feel like the king of the hill during the arena phase. It's your chance to flaunt your power and intimidate the competition, showing who rules the roost.
Remember that this is an expansion, so you need the base game Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery to enjoy everything House Calavius has to offer. The language dependency is moderate, so having translated cards or a cheat sheet will greatly help you avoid getting lost amidst the schemes and alliances.
If you're looking for more depth, more interaction, and that extra dose of drama that only Spartacus can deliver, this expansion is a perfect fit. Get ready for more auctions, more bluffing, and gladiators sweating it out in pursuit of glory and survival. Let's head to the arena!

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Does this expansion work on its own, or do I need the base game?
You need to own the base game Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery to use the House Calavius expansion. It adds content to the main game.
How many players does this expansion add?
The expansion allows for one additional player per game, increasing the total number of participants and, consequently, the complexity and interactions.
Does the game become much more complicated with this expansion?
It adds another house and ostentation tokens, which might slightly increase complexity, but nothing too daunting for those already familiar with the base game. Language dependency is moderate.
What are the main new components?
The expansion includes the House Calavius card, representing the new family in the game, and the ostentation tokens, used to display power during the arena phase.
Is it worth it for those who play with fewer players?
If you usually play with the maximum number of players or enjoy a crowded table, then yes. For those who prefer games focused on 2-3 players, the impact might be less significant.
Do I need to translate the cards?
Ludopedia indicates moderate language dependency. It's recommended to have a translated reference material (like a spreadsheet or cards) to facilitate understanding of the new rules and interactions.
