If you love the idea of building your own space fleet and obliterating your opponent's base, Star Realms: Colony Wars is right up your alley. The game is designed with great versatility: it works as a standalone game for two combatants or as an expansion for the base Star Realms set, allowing the galactic brawl to scale up to four players. The dynamics are fast-paced and straight to the point.
At the start, everyone begins from the same point: ten basic ships that don't do much but serve to generate trade currency. The heart of the game lies in the central market, where five cards are exposed. You use your resources to purchase more powerful ships and fortified bases, which enter your deck and eventually cycle back into your hand. The goal? Simple and brutal: use the combat power of your ships to attack the opponent's authority. If you manage to reduce the opponent's health (authority) to zero, the victory is yours.
The real fun is in the synergy. Each faction offers different bonuses, and assembling the right combo can turn your fleet into an unstoppable war machine. But be careful, as the market is shared, so you need to keep an eye on what your opponent is buying to avoid letting victory slip away. It's the kind of game that is quick, where every purchase decision can shift the tide of the match. If you enjoy card games with high interactivity and that 'fast-strategy' feel, Colony Wars delivers all of that in a compact package.

Do I need the original Star Realms to play?
Nope! It works as a complete standalone game for 2 players. However, if you own the original, you can combine them to play with up to 4 people.
How long does a game take?
It's very fast! Matches usually last around 20 minutes, making it ideal for those who don't want to spend hours at the table.
Is it hard to learn?
Not at all. The rules are simple and intuitive, making it a great way to introduce the deck-building concept to new players.
Is the game only for two players?
Standalone, yes. But as an expansion to the base game, it opens up the possibility for 4-player matches.
Is it a complex game?
It has a low weight (around 1.8 on BGG), meaning it's accessible but still offers strategic depth through deck optimization.
