About the game
In Strasbourg, you take the helm of an ambitious family in 15th‑century Alsace, a time when craftsmen guilds shape the city’s politics. Your goal is to place family members into the various guilds—as apprentices, assistants or masters—by spending influence points and paying admission fees. Each placement earns prestige, but competition is fierce: the church, the nobility, and rival families also vie for spots. The game blends auction mechanics (using a "once around" bidding round) to decide who pays what, area control to secure majority in guilds, and pattern building as you lay tiles on the board. The board depicts Strasbourg’s districts, where you place tiles that create paths and zones granting influence bonuses. The rules are easy to grasp, yet depth emerges from balancing money, influence, and bid timing while watching opponents’ moves. In about an hour, 3‑5 players feel the tension of climbing the city’s social ladder, aiming to finish the most famous. With a light weight (2.7/5), Strasbourg is friendly to newcomers but still offers enough strategic choices to keep seasoned gamers engaged. Components include a modular board, family tokens, guild cards, influence markers and admission coins. If you enjoy city‑building, auctions, and a dash of medieval flavor, Strasbourg provides a fun, twist‑filled experience without overwhelming complexity.
