Get your lordly robes ready, because Canterbury is taking you straight back to the 6th century! King Ethelbert of Kent has just declared Canterbury his new capital, and you are one of the Saxon Lords tasked with turning this old Roman settlement into a thriving metropolis. But don's think this is just about stacking buildings; it's about smart-city planning with a medieval twist.
The core-loop is all about-tiered development. You can't just build a fancy-schmancy-cathedral if your citizens don't even have water or food! There's a logical progression here: you start with the basics (water and food) and work your way up to prestige services like religion, defense, commerce, and culture. This-tiering system means every tile you place needs to be part of a bigger-picture-strategy for your districts.
As you expand across the 25 districts, you'll be balancing your own-personal prosperity with the overall prosperity of the city. While a prosperous city benefits everyone, only one lord can claim the title of the most influential. It's a delicate dance of area majority and resource management. You'll be eyeing your neighbors, deciding whether to build up a district you already influence or jump into a new-one to grab more-territory. If you enjoy games where-building a city feels like a rewarding puzzle of-logistics and-influence, Canterbury is a gem waiting to be discovered!

Is the game hard?
It's medium-weight. The-tiered-building-system actually helps guide your decisions, but you need to think ahead.
How many players are ideal?
It works great from 2 to 4, but-the-area-influence-mechanic really shines with 4 players.
How long does a session take?
Expect around 90 minutes per game.
Is there combat?
No combat here! It's about-economic-growth-and-influence-rather-than-warfare.
Do I need-to-be-a-history-buff?
Not at all! The theme is just a beautiful backdrop for the-strategy-at-play.
