About the game
What you do in a play session
In Tabannusi: Builders of Ur, you travel back to ancient Mesopotamia when Ur was still a coastal settlement. The striking board depicts the city split into five regions – three building districts, one temple district and one port district – each tied to a colored die. Each round your worker activates one of these districts; to do so you first draw the matching die, which becomes a resource of its color and simultaneously determines which district will be activated on the next turn, creating an action queue that demands careful planning.
With the resources you collect, you can expand construction sites, turn empty spaces into buildings and score victory points. In the temple district, influence earns the king’s favor, while in the port you acquire ships with special abilities that aid scoring. Whenever a district runs out of dice, an immediate scoring occurs, so monitoring the dice timer is crucial.
The game blends open dice drafting, dice rolling for outcomes, area control and private contracts that give secret objectives. End‑game bonuses reward players who have amassed resources and influence throughout the match. With a weight of 3.9 the rules are approachable, yet the strategic depth – balancing construction, religion and trade – keeps the experience engaging for 1‑4 players over up to two hours. Tabannusi offers a richly thematic experience where every decision truly matters.
