About the game

What you do in a play session

The fifth expansion for The Castles of Burgundy, titled Der Lustgarten (Pleasure Garden), adds ten six‑sided hex tiles that fit neatly into the base board. It includes nine beige "Pleasure Garden" buildings – two of them with black backs for a visual twist – and a single yellow "knowledge" tile. Each Pleasure Garden is worth four victory points at game end, which can swing the score if placed wisely. During setup, the tiles are shuffled into two piles (buildings and knowledge) and placed within reach of all players. Whenever a player adds a Pleasure Garden to their estate, they immediately take an extra action using the number shown on the white die, effectively gaining an additional worker. That action can be used to harvest resources, move pieces, or purchase cards, depending on the situation. The expansion was released as a limited‑print item for the "Stadt Land spielt" event on September 14, 2014, making it a sought‑after collector’s piece. Overall, it adds more tile‑placement variety, reinforces set collection, and introduces extra dice rolling to the base game without overcomplicating the rules. If you already enjoy the strategic placement, resource management, and point optimization of the original, Pleasure Garden is a welcome upgrade, especially for 2‑4 player games that run about 90 minutes.
