About the game

What you do in a play session

In "The Hunt for Gollum", the first Adventure Pack of the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle, Gandalf sends you and your fellowship to track the slippery Gollum through the Anduin Valley. The creature has left a trail of clues—some genuine, some traps—and it’s up to you to follow the right path before time runs out. Each 60‑card fixed deck includes a new hero, three copies of nine player‑specific cards, plus encounter and quest cards that bring the scenario to life. As a Living Card Game, there’s no random booster to buy; everything you need is in the box, though you can still expand with later packs.

The game remains cooperative, so you and a partner (or solo) must blend each hero’s unique abilities—variable player powers that shape how you tackle obstacles. Hand management is key: deciding when to play a resource card, hold an attack, or discard to avoid hand‑bloat can turn the hunt around. False clues may send the group in circles, forcing a reset or a strategic pivot.

Tolkien‑inspired fantasy flavor sets a dark Mirkwood atmosphere and the tension of hunting such a cunning foe. The mechanics are light (weight 2.85/5), allowing roughly an hour of play—ideal for a quick session or for players who want narrative depth without heavy rules. If you already enjoy the base game, this pack adds fresh cards and an intriguing quest; if you’re new, it’s a great entry point into Fantasy Flight’s cooperative card universe.
