About the game

What you do in a play session

With the arrival of Mountain of Fire, the Lord of the Rings saga reaches its conclusion with a bundle of three scenarios that pit players alongside Aragorn and Frodo on the march to the Black Gate. Each scenario recreates iconic moments from The Return of the King, bringing the urgency of the final battle and the sense that Middle‑Earth’s fate hangs in the balance. The expansion introduces the “Dire” keyword, raising the threat elimination threshold to 99 and demanding that players plan every move with precision. In addition, the cooperative mechanic lets two players join forces, while hand‑management challenges players to optimize cards and variable powers ensure each player has a distinct, strategic role. New heroes, allies, events, and attachments bring depth from Tolkien’s work, with artwork that captures the dark and heroic atmosphere of the trilogy. Mountain of Fire also offers an epic multiplayer mode where the last two scenarios can be played simultaneously, creating a more intense, collaborative campaign experience. Though a complete expansion, it requires that players already own the base game and that the material be translated into English, as many terms are specific to the universe. In short, if you enjoy epic narratives, cooperative challenges, and a good dose of strategy, this expansion is a must‑have for any LCG collector.
