About the game

What you do in a play session

The Sands of Harad is the sixth deluxe expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, thrusting heroes into a journey that stretches far beyond the borders of Middle‑Earth. Set immediately after the events of The Grey Havens and the Dream‑Chaser cycle, players venture into the mysterious southern lands, starting in the streets of Umbar, moving through the Harad desert, and returning near Mordor in brand‑new scenarios that push the game’s logic to new limits. Three fresh scenarios chart distinct paths: the coast, the vast desert, and the return to Sauron’s domain, each presenting unique obstacles—from relentless Haradrim and harsh environmental effects to deadly desert predators. The expansion also revisits the ancient animosity between the Men of Gondor and the Haradim, forcing players to balance alliances and rivalries. Heroes gain new player cards that require paired traits to trigger powerful effects, and a new alliance system lets two characters strengthen each other. Additionally, new ally cards for each sphere of influence and a side quest that bypasses resource matching on the first ally played each turn add tactical flexibility. Components include a 140‑card deck, resource tokens, scenario markers, progress tokens, and a set of scenario cards that change each game’s atmosphere. Hand‑management remains central, demanding players decide precisely when to use each card, while variable player powers add layers of strategy and customization. If you’re a fan of LCG, Tolkien, or simply love deep cooperative games that test teamwork and tactical decisions, The Sands of Harad delivers an epic adventure with environmental challenges and team decisions that will push even the most seasoned players.
