About the game

What you do in a play session

In The Manhattan Project: Chain Reaction, you step into the shoes of a Defense Minister for a small but ambitious nation that must develop atomic bombs before rival powers do. Set against the tense backdrop of World War II, spies have already secured the nuclear technology, but you still need labor, scientists, engineers, and raw materials. Each player runs a deck of dual‑purpose cards – some represent teams of workers, scientists or engineers, while others act as resources or project steps. By playing these cards you train and deploy your crews to advance bomb projects, gather materials, and occasionally hinder opponents. The goal is to be the first to amass 10 megatons of bombs; once a player hits that threshold the round ends and the one with the most bombs secures their nation’s survival. A quick 30‑40 minute game that supports 1‑5 players, making it perfect for solo play or small groups. The core mechanic is hand management, forcing you to decide when to play each card, balancing immediate resource needs against larger project builds. Multi‑use cards add depth, serving either as a resource or an action depending on the context. Despite the heavy theme, the gameplay feels light and fluid, with each session offering a fresh combination of cards and a constant race for points. If you enjoy strategic card games, historical settings, or just a fast‑paced nuclear showdown, Chain Reaction delivers it all in a compact, well‑designed package.
