About the game

What you do in a play session

The Spoils, first released in 2006, is a card game that, while drawing some inspiration from famous titles like Magic: The Gathering, manages to stand out with its own unique identity and interesting mechanics. The game kicks off with each player choosing a figurehead or faction card, which not only dictates your initial turn actions but also grants special, exclusive abilities, shaping each participant's strategy from the get-go. It's like having a unique superpower guiding you through the game!

To play your most powerful cards – be they characters, tactics, items, or locations (many with specific subtypes) – you'll need to accumulate resources. And here's a clever twist: any card from your hand can be discarded face down to serve as a resource. The catch is that, used this way, it won't contribute the resource icons needed to activate your plays. These icons are represented by five 'trades': the Banker (Greed), the Rogue (Deception), the Warlord (Rage), the Gearsmith (Elitism), and the Arcanist (Obsession). Each of these icons is crucial for unlocking the potential of your cards. Unfortunately, production of The Spoils was discontinued on January 1st, 2017, making it a collector's item for those who enjoy a good card challenge with a touch of humor and fantasy.
