Step by step
Game Objective
In Trailer, the main objective is to be the first team to reach the end of the board. To do this, teams must guess movie titles based on clues.
Preparation (Setup)
- Players are divided into teams. The game supports a maximum of 4 teams, and each team must have at least two players.
- The five decks of cards (Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Classic, and Thriller) are separated by their themes and thoroughly shuffled.
- Each team chooses a pawn color and places it on the starting space of the board.
- Each team chooses one player to be the team leader.
- The team leaders roll the die to decide the order of play.
Gameplay Flow
The game progresses in rounds, where each team attempts to guess a movie. Whether they guess correctly or not, the turn passes to the next team.
Round 1
In the first round, the team chooses the movie genre they wish to guess. One of the players from the team draws a card from the chosen pile, flips the hourglass, and reads the first movie clue aloud to the other players on their team. Players must try to answer the movie title. If they cannot, they ask the player to read the second clue, then the third, and so on, until they guess the movie title. It is crucial to manage the hourglass time so that the team says the movie title before time runs out.
The team can only risk the movie title once, so they must be careful with hasty answers.
Round 2
At the end of the second round, and in subsequent rounds, the team no longer rolls the die to move around the board. The number of clues used to guess the movie will determine the number of spaces the pawn will advance on the board.
Actions and How to Play
Guessing the Movie
During a team's turn, a player reads clues from a card to their teammates. Clues are read one by one, and the team tries to guess the movie title. The hourglass controls the time for the answer.
Checking the Movie Title
To check the movie title, use the cinematic viewer. The player who read the clues places the card in the viewer to see the correct movie title.
Movement on the Board (Round 1)
If the team guesses the movie title correctly in Round 1, they roll the die to find out how many spaces their pawn will move on the board. The space where the pawn lands will indicate the movie genre the team must guess in the next round. If the team does not guess correctly, the pawn remains on the starting space, and the next time they play, the team must choose a different theme than the previous one.
Movement on the Board (Round 2 onwards)
From Round 2 onwards, the pawn's movement is determined by the number of clues used to guess the movie:
- Guessing on the 1st CLUE: advances 6 spaces.
- Guessing on the 2nd CLUE: advances 4 spaces.
- Guessing on the 3rd CLUE: advances 3 spaces.
- Guessing on the 4th CLUE: advances 2 spaces.
- Guessing on the 5th CLUE: advances 1 space.
If the team does not guess the answer correctly, their pawn does not move. In the next round, the team must draw a new card of the same theme.
Cards with an Asterisk (*)
Some cards are marked with an asterisk (*). If the current team does not guess the movie after five clues, the next team has the right to try to guess the movie title. If they guess correctly, they move one space on the board. If they guess incorrectly, they move back one space, and then the next team can also try to guess the movie title. This process continues until it reaches the team before the one that started the round.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when a team reaches the end of the board. The team that first achieves this condition wins.
There is no cumulative scoring system; victory is determined by reaching the end of the board.
Tips for Winning
- Clue Reading Tactics: It requires a lot of tactics to go through the clues, balancing the need to give enough information without revealing too much, and also great care so that the hourglass time does not run out before the team says the movie title.
- Beware of Hasty Answers: The team can only risk the movie title once. Therefore, they must be careful with hasty answers.
- Prior Definition of Answer Criteria: Before the start of the game, teams should establish the criteria for answers. For beginner groups, answers that demonstrate the team knows what the movie is, even if the name is not complete (e.g., "Rambo" instead of "Rambo - First Blood"), can be considered correct. For "expert" groups, the most fun is to only consider complete titles in Portuguese.
