About the game
What you do in a play session
Traverse is a 15‑mm wargame that brings World War II to life in a fast, precise, and incredibly immersive way. What sets it apart is that combat doesn’t rely on hit rolls; instead, every order and movement can trigger an immediate reaction, creating tension and unpredictability. As a commander, you must react to the constantly shifting battle pattern, intervene, and lead your troops in real time.
The “Chit‑Pull” mechanic determines who can activate each turn. At the start of a turn, the attacking player begins, and both players draw a token. The number on the token indicates which groups of units may activate that turn, making every tactical decision critical. This balanced randomness keeps the game fluid and prevents one player from dominating for too long.
Movement is handled with the “Movement Template,” which provides a visual pattern that defines how far and in what direction each unit can move. This streamlines play and keeps the pace brisk, allowing players to focus on strategic choices rather than complex calculations.
Combat is resolved with a dice pool that represents the firing solution. All dice are rolled together; terrain, enemy movement, and firing angle affect hit chances. If a target is hit, the gun’s strength is compared to the target’s armor protection, with an added luck factor. For infantry, firing doesn’t require rolls; instead, the unit accumulates “combat readiness,” increasing suppression until it surrenders.
The objectives are simple: control areas of the board to earn victory points. The player with the most points wins. The gameplay experience is intense, with quick decisions, historical realism, and the ability to adapt the game to other scales, making it a solid choice for anyone looking for an authentic tactical wargame.
