About the game

What you do in a play session

Tribes: Early Civilization invites you to lead your prehistoric crew to glory! In about 40 minutes, you'll guide your tribe from the dawn of humanity, through the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras, right up to the Bronze Age. Starting with the bare essentials and an unexplored corner of the map, the goal is to evolve, invent new technologies, explore the surroundings, fend off invaders, and, of course, survive unexpected catastrophes. The game is a 'fast 3X' (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit) with a special twist: each player has their own area to develop, but the technology tree and the action column are highly interactive.

On the tech tree, the first inventor gets a bonus, and the action column is where the magic happens – and shells (the game's currency) accumulate in a closed system. The main actions are explore, move, and grow, tied to your civilization level. Historical events and your tribe's military strength also come into play here, potentially giving you advantages or hindering opponents. The cool part is that, despite seeming fixed, the systems interlock in a way that makes each game feel fresh, with resources that can feel scarce one moment and abundant the next, ensuring that replayability we love without complicated upkeep.
