Actions and How to Play

The game involves various actions and abilities, many of them tied to factions and their leaders. Here are some examples of how factions and their components work:

Omega Initiative (Reworked Components)

This section contains reworked versions of pre-existing components or new components that provide gameplay improvements. The reworked cards are standard mini American size and replace their counterparts from the Prophecy of Kings expansion.

  • Xxcha Hero - Political Information Bond: To reduce the wild and often unstoppable movement of the Xxcha hero, this card has been reworked. When you exhaust planets, combine the values of their resources and influence. Treat the combined value as if it were both resources and influence.
  • Yin Brotherhood: All three Yin Brotherhood leaders have received reworks.
    • Brother Milor (Purified by Fire): Its use has been expanded to cover both ground combat and space combat. After a player's unit is destroyed, you may exhaust this card to allow that player to place 2 fighters in the destroyed unit's system if it was a ship, or 2 infantry on its planet if it was a ground force.
    • Brother Omar (Devotee of the Loom): Revises the Yin's technological prowess. This card satisfies a green technology prerequisite. When you research a technology owned by another player, you may return 1 of your infantry to your reinforcements to ignore its prerequisites.
    • Dannel of the Tenth (Quantum Dissemination - Yin's Blessing): The Greyfire Mutagenic Agent is directed towards more nefarious purposes. ACTION: Send up to 3 infantry from your reinforcements to any non-home planets and resolve invasions on those planets; players cannot use SPACE CANNON against these units. Then, purge this card.
  • Naalu Cooperative: Two of their leaders and their mech have been adjusted.
    • Z'eu (Agent of Nefishh): Provides the Naalu with a much greater degree of flexibility in their early rounds. ACTION: Exhaust this card and choose a player; that player may perform a tactical action in a non-home system without placing a command token; that system still counts as being activated.
    • M'aban (Crystalline Sorceress): Allows unrestricted access to the council's minds. At any time: You may look at your neighbors' promissory note hands and the top and bottom cards of the agenda deck.
    • Iconoclast (Naalu Mech): Extends a degree of protection to any of the Naalu fighters that are within its system. Other players cannot use ANTI-FIGHTER BARRAGE against your units in this system.
  • Secret Objectives: A trio of secret objectives has been adjusted to synergize with various action cards and abilities. Examples include "Turn Fleets to Dust," "Make an Example of Their World," and "Fight with Precision."

Ixthian Artifacts (New Components)

This section contains entirely new components that can be combined with existing ones in the base game and the Prophecy of Kings expansion.

  • Exploration Cards: Six new frontier exploration cards are included, such as Dead World, Entropic Field, and Keleres Ship. They can be combined with the rest of the frontier exploration deck to increase the value of rewards.

Galactic Vigil (New Faction: The Council Keleres)

A new playable faction, The Council Keleres, has been added.

  • Keleres Faction Abilities:
    • Supply Network: You are neighbors with all players who own units or control planets in Mecatol Rex or its adjacencies.
    • I.I. H.Q. Modernization: Gain the Custodia Vigilia planet card and its legendary planet card. You cannot lose these cards, and they cannot have an X or Y assimilator token placed on them.
  • Keleres Agent - Xander Alexin Victori III (Miracle Operator): At any time: You may exhaust this card to allow any player to spend commodities as if they were trade goods.
  • Keleres Commander - Suffi An (Working on Multiple Fronts): After performing a component action: You may perform an additional action.
  • Keleres Mech - Omniopiares: Other players must spend 1 influence to send ground forces to the planet containing this unit.
  • Keleres Heroes (The Tribunii): Unlocked by having 3 objectives completed.
    • Kuuasi Aun Jalatai (Keleres Tribune): Available if you chose the Silver Band during setup. At the start of a space combat round in a system containing a planet under your control, place your flagship and up to 2 cruisers and/or destroyers from your reinforcements into the active system. Then, purge this card.
    • Odlynn Myrr (Keleres Tribune): Available if you chose Xxcha during setup. After an agenda is revealed: You may cast up to 6 additional votes on this agenda. Predict a result aloud. For each player who votes for another result, gain 1 trade good and 1 command token. Then, purge this card.
    • Harka Leeds (Keleres Tribune): Available if you chose Mentak during setup. ACTION: Reveal cards from the action card deck until you reveal 3 cards that have component actions. Draw those cards and shuffle the rest back into the action card deck. Then, purge this card.
  • Custodia Vigilia (Keleres Legendary Planet): While you control Mecatol Rex, it has SPACE CANNON 5 and PRODUCTION 3. Gain 2 command tokens when another player gains VP using Imperial.
  • Promissory Note - Keleres Clause: After an agenda is revealed: You cannot vote on this agenda. Predict a result aloud. If your prediction is correct, draw 1 action card and gain 2 trade goods. Then, return this card to the Keleres player.
  • Keleres Alliance - Liaison Agency: After performing a component action: You may perform an additional action.

Tips for Winning

Based on the information provided, here are some tactical tips:

  1. Leverage Faction Abilities: Factions have unique abilities that can be crucial. For example, as the Council Keleres, your Supply Network can give a strategic advantage when considering Mecatol Rex and its adjacencies. Use I.I. H.Q. Modernization to secure control of the legendary planet Custodia Vigilia, which offers SPACE CANNON 5 and PRODUCTION 3 on Mecatol Rex, as well as additional command tokens.
  2. Optimize Leader and Mech Usage: Reworks of leaders like the Yin Brotherhood's Brother Milor allow for more flexibility in combat, while the Naalu's Z'eu offers an extra tactical action without spending a command token. The Iconoclast Naalu Mech protects your fighters against ANTI-FIGHTER BARRAGE, which can be vital in confrontations.
  3. Manipulate the Agenda Phase: If you are playing as the Xxcha and have the Xxcha Hero - Political Information Bond, combine your resource and influence values for more power. As Keleres, the Promissory Note - Keleres Clause allows you to predict the outcome of an agenda to gain action cards and trade goods, even without voting. The Keleres Hero Odlynn Myrr can cast up to 6 additional votes and rewards for predicting correctly.
