About the game

What you do in a play session

Versailles puts you in the shoes of an architect or designer working on the iconic French palace. You and your opponents will compete for King Louis XIV's favor while building and decorating the most luxurious gardens and halls in Europe. The game blends strategy with a touch of puzzle: you move workers between construction sites, triggering actions and gathering resources to complete parts of the palace. The rondel adds an interesting layer of planning, as you need to carefully consider which action to prioritize each turn. Despite simple rules, the competition for space and resources can get quite intense. And in the end, whoever impresses the King the most with their constructions wins!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

5 questions
How many players is ideal?
Works best with 3-4. With 2 it's more tactical, with 5 it might drag a bit between turns.
Is there much luck involved?
There's randomness in tile draws, but strategy matters more. Those who plan their rondel actions better will do well.
Is it hard to learn?
Rules are straightforward, the manual explains well. Everyone gets the hang of it in 2-3 turns.
Do I need history knowledge?
Not at all! The theme is a plus, but the game works mechanically. History buffs will appreciate the details.
Does it take long?
Box says 90 minutes, but with experienced players it can be faster. First game might take 2 hours.
