About the game
What you do in a play session
Ever felt that quiet, intense moment when nature prepares for the deep freeze? That is exactly the vibe Winterhaven Woods brings to your table! In this fast-paced and strategic card game, you step into the role of a forest guardian with a vital mission: ensuring the animals survive the harsh winter months. To achieve this, you can't just hope for the best; you'll need to plant trees to create protected woods and populate these spaces with the right creatures.
The gameplay unfolds over three intense rounds. In each one, you'll engage in card drafting to build your own ecosystem. But don't think it's all peaceful contemplation! There's a very interesting layer of player interaction that you can customize based on how much 'take-that' action you want at the table. You can deploy predators to hunt creatures left exposed in your opponents' meadows or even use steal cards to snatch resources from others. Just a friendly heads-up: if you go overboard with the mischief and try to rob everyone, the game will hit you with a heavy penalty in the final score!
The game strikes a great balance between building your own woods and managing risks. You must decide whether to focus on collecting sets for scoring bonuses or investing in predators to capitalize on the opportunities others leave behind. After three rounds, we tally the points, collection bonuses, and subtract penalties from those who were a bit too 'naughty.' Whoever has the best-prepared and most balanced forest wins. It's a perfect game for those seeking a 20-minute experience filled with meaningful decisions and an enchanting visual theme that transports you straight to the heart of a winter forest.
