About the game

What you do in a play session

Grab your binoculars and field journal, because Birds of a Feather: Western North America is an invitation to an ornithological expedition along the western coast. In this light and charming card game, your goal is to spot as many rare species as possible, but here is the twist: you are not alone on the trail. The core mechanic revolves around simultaneous card selection. Each round, you choose a habitat to visit, and the secret is to keep an eye on where your friends are heading. If you visit the same habitat as other players, you end up marking more birds on your sheet, as they essentially 'help' you locate species missing from your list. It is a game of reading the table and predicting others' behavior, where involuntary collaboration is the key to success. The deck is divided into five distinct habitats, and the game flows quickly and intuitively. In the first round, you play a card and mark the birds in that habitat. In the following round, the dynamic repeats, but with a bonus: you also mark the birds played in that same habitat during the previous round, as if word of the sightings had spread through the forest. The game ends when everyone's hand is empty. Scoring is an exercise in efficiency: rare birds are worth more, and completing a collection of seven types of birds in a single habitat grants a juicy 10-point bonus. With a weight of 1.25, it is the perfect title to play with family or to wrap up the night with a quick game lasting up to 30 minutes. This version features a refreshed graphic design and fine-tuned rules for 2 or 3-player games, making the experience more strategic and less dependent on luck. If you are looking for a relaxing game that still requires a bit of cunning to outsmart your opponents, this is your next destination on the shelf.
