Witch's Brew is the fourth entry in the Alea Medium Box series and offers a card game experience unlike most. Players constantly shift roles – from druids to assistants – while trying to brew powerful potions. Each round consists of a simultaneous‑selection phase: every player picks five of the twelve role cards in their hand, places them face‑down, then reveals them in order. Each role provides a full action and a weaker "favor" action. If you are the first to play a given role, you may take the full action; later players who chose the same role can either settle for the favor action or attempt to claim the full action, risking that a subsequent player will snatch it away. This creates a lot of bluffing, because no one knows who will go for which role. The role cards also help gather ingredients and money needed to complete the potions listed on the cauldron cards. Once all five cards per player have been resolved, a new set of five cards is drawn and the process repeats. The game lasts 30‑60 minutes, supports 3‑5 players, and has a light weight (about 2 on the Alea scale), making it ideal for quick, thematic, and twist‑filled sessions. Expansions – The 6th Player, The Amulets, and The Magical Abilities – add a sixth player, amulets that spice up 3‑player games, and magical‑ability cards that make certain roles especially tempting. In short, Witch's Brew blends hand management, simultaneous action selection, and bluffing into a light‑hearted fantasy package that’s a blast to play.
