Inspired by Al Capone's famous quote, "You can get pretty far in life with a smile, but you can get a lot farther with a smile and a gun," With a Smile & a Gun plunges you headfirst into the Prohibition-era underworld. Here, you and your rival take on the roles of criminal gang leaders, battling for control over the city's illicit businesses. The game is a true dance of intrigue and sneakiness, where the goal is always to be one step ahead of your opponent, whether by sending the police to their businesses or leveraging your network's abilities. You need to know when to go all-out and when to lay low.

The core mechanic is an intelligent dice-drafting and area-majority system. Each round, thirteen dice are rolled, forming a pool of options. Each player then drafts two dice: one for movement around the city, which is used to spread your influence, and another for a specific action. The clever twist is that, often, you'll draft a die not because you need it, but because your opponent does – pure cunning! After three rounds of drafting, one of the five non-player characters (NPCs) enters the scene, using the leftover die for their own movement and impacting the game in a unique way. The player who attracted the least attention, meaning the one with the lowest sum of action dice, gets a special 'scheming' action. Then, majorities of influence in each district are scored. After three rounds, the player with the most points claims victory and control of the city. Get ready for a tense duel full of tough decisions!
