About the game
Imagine taking a twilight stroll up a hill and stumbling upon a mysterious pagoda. The catch? You've just woken up ten powerful Japanese spirits—the Yokai—and they are absolutely furious. To soothe their wrath, you'll need strategy, control, and a bit of mischief. Yokai Pagoda is a fast-paced card game where the goal is straightforward: finish the game with the lowest possible score.

The game unfolds over three rounds. Each turn, you play one card, and depending on its value and type, different effects trigger. If you play the same Yokai or the same number as the previous card, you can 'gift' a card from your hand to an opponent (get rid of those high numbers!). If you play a different Yokai with a higher number, you can draw from the deck or take the top card from the opposite discard pile. If you play a lower number, you can either let the round continue or, if you're strategic and have a total of 3 points or less in your hand, end the round immediately.

The real twist lies in the scoring: you don't just sum everything up. For each type of Yokai you hold, only the lowest value card counts toward your total. This creates a constant dilemma: you want low cards to keep your score down, but you need higher cards to manipulate opponents' hands or grab specific cards. It's the kind of game where knowing exactly when to stop the round is the difference between victory and defeat. It's quick, tense, and perfect for those who love card games with a 'hot potato' vibe, where nobody wants to be holding the bomb when the round ends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the game complex?
Not at all; the rules are easy to learn, but the strategy of when to end the round requires some thought.
How long does a game take?
It's very quick, usually between 10 and 15 minutes, making it a perfect filler between longer games.
Does it work well with 2 players?
Yes, it works well, but with more players, the dynamic of gifting cards to others becomes more chaotic and fun.
Do I need prior knowledge about Yokais?
None! The theme is charming, but the mechanics work regardless of your knowledge of Japanese mythology.
What is the main strategy to win?
The secret is balancing your hand to keep the lowest card of each Yokai type and timing the round end perfectly.
