About the game
What you do in a play session
In early Italy, around 600 BCE, five city‑states vie for dominance: Rome, Velletri, Reate, Veii and Alba Longa. Each player controls one and must simultaneously reach 16 population and 10 monuments to become the preeminent power of antiquity. The game blends three pillars: custom dice selection, internal city management, and worker placement. Each round you choose which dice to roll, letting you steer workers to the most needed production spots or monument construction. When cities clash, direct combat with soldiers and heroes erupts, adding a military flavor to the economic core. The box includes three expansions – Assisi (board‑control city), A Job Well Done (adds a sentinel) and Spoils of War (war‑slave mechanic) – which can be combined for extra replay value. Originally prototyped as *The Great Pyramid*, it won the 2009 Concours International de Créateurs de Jeux de Société, praised for clear rules and a huge strategic space. Components feature individual player boards, population tokens, combat cards, colored dice and monument markers. A typical game lasts about 90 minutes, supports 2‑5 players, and carries a moderate complexity (3/5 weight), perfect for fans of civilization games that mix economic planning with tactical battles.
