About the game
What you do in a play session
Expansion or Extinction drops 2‑4 players into a post‑apocalyptic future where the Sun has blown up after centuries of star colonisation. Earth’s colonies, now free from the Sun’s gravity, scramble to reclaim space and carve out their own spheres of influence. The game runs on the award‑winning Triumph and Tragedy engine, featuring a campaign driven by action cards and dice‑resolved battles. Each player starts with a star system that has just rediscovered interstellar travel technology. The goal is to explore neighboring systems and bring them under your control, either peacefully via action cards or through military conquest. There are three world types: Core Worlds, highly populated but resource‑depleted; Outer Rim worlds, rich in resources but sparsely populated; and Green Worlds, the balanced starting zones with both population and resources, yet equipped with fleets ready for conflict. Play proceeds as a campaign, with cards dictating events, missions and battles, while dice rolls settle combat and discoveries. The game blends economic management, territory building and war tactics within a sci‑fi setting. A 3/5 weight means the rules are approachable yet deep enough to keep strategists engaged. Perfect for fans of space‑themed war games who enjoy a story unfolding card by card.
