Dice rolls and random events keep games unpredictable, while multiple victory conditions allow varied strategies. Just don’t expect heavy negotiation or direct conflict.

About the game

What you do in a play session

Set sail for the Age of Discovery in *Anno 1503*, a strategy game where you play as a colonial power exploring uncharted islands. Designed by Klaus Teuber (creator of *Catan*), it blends city-building, exploration, and resource management on a modular board. Each turn starts with a die roll: a 6 triggers random events (not always good!), while other numbers grant resources from your workshops. Use them to recruit colonists, build ships, or trade with the bank. Exploration is key: send ships to hidden islands to discover outposts, treasures, or trade agreements, then bring these benefits home. But beware: each ship sails only once! Victory requires achieving three of five goals, like hoarding gold, establishing outposts, or promoting colonists to merchants. With minimal direct player interaction, the race for islands and efficient resource management create a compelling strategic experience.
