About the game

What you do in a play session

Antike Duellum is an epic duel where two strategists clash in classic scenarios: Rome versus Carthage in the Punic Wars or the Greeks versus Persians in the Persian Wars. The board is split into two halves, each representing a great conflict of antiquity, and each player commands armies, cities, and resources that evolve throughout the game. The goal is simple yet challenging: be the first to accumulate nine legendary figures—kings, scholars, generals, citizens, and navigators—that symbolize a civilization’s glory.

The Area Majority/Influence mechanic determines territory control based on the number of pieces or resources present, while the Tech Tree allows each side to advance in knowledge, unlocking new unit types and abilities. Open Drafting adds a competitive edge, as both players select event cards and resources simultaneously, creating tension and risk decisions.

One of Antike Duellum’s highlights is its modular structure: when founding a city, the player chooses whether it produces iron, marble, or gold, generating different income streams and expansion strategies. Individual city walls add a tactical layer, as preventing a city’s conquest can be cheaper than attempting to capture it.

The game also features over 20 event cards ranging from natural disasters to technological discoveries, keeping each session fresh and unpredictable. The Movement Points mechanic limits unit mobility, requiring careful planning, while the Income system ensures players have enough resources to invest in new units and tech.

Although the learning curve is moderate due to the blend of mechanics, Antike Duellum stands out for its strategic depth and the way it blends combat, economy, and technological development into a single duel. Fans of classic strategy games, territorial control, and complex tactical decisions will find a solid and fun challenge here.
