About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever thought about commanding an underground empire? In Ants, you take control of an ant colony in a fierce struggle for dominance over a garden. This is a deep strategy experience: you start with a unique Queen tile, which defines your playstyle and how you interact with the ecosystem's interconnected systems. The goal is straightforward but the execution is complex: grow, explore, and conquer.

Gameplay revolves around six main actions: Dig, Explore, Gather, Play Cards, Incubate, and Defeat Enemies. The twist lies in worker allocation. You don't just place a worker; you decide how many specialized ants (from 1 to 4) to commit to determine the action's power. Want to expand the nest with strategic room tiles? Use the diggers. Want to brave the hexagonal map to find resources? Send the explorers. To secure your supply, gatherers create networks that automate resource collection and emit pheromones as hexes are depleted.

The heart of the game is the incubation board. Here, you manage the life cycle: eggs, larvae, and adult ants. You'll need to feed your larvae with food cubes so they evolve into the specializations you need most at the moment. If you're in a pinch, wild ants act as valuable wildcards. Nest architecture is also crucial: completing nest areas grants stars, which are a primary source of victory points.

Whether you focus on architectural mastery, territorial control, demographic growth, or aggressive tactics with cards and combat, there are multiple paths to victory. It's a dense game, perfect for those who love planning every move and watching their colony thrive while opponents try to steal their space. For the colony!
