About the game

What you do in a play session

Architekton is a two‑player abstract duel that feels like a cross between Carcassonne and Fjorde, but with a unique twist: the board builds itself like a chessboard, alternating light and dark squares. On each turn a player lays a tile – either a building tile or a landscape tile – on the diagonal opposite the previous move. When you surround one of your houses with a building, you earn one point if all adjacent landscapes match; otherwise you lose one, two, or three points depending on how many mismatched terrains surround it. You may remove your house to mitigate the loss, but you forfeit the chance to score later. At game end, each house that belongs to your longest diagonal chain grants an extra point. The game is quick (30‑45 minutes), uses simple components (dual‑colored wooden or cardboard tiles), and offers deep strategy where every placement matters. There is no luck involved; success hinges on arranging tiles and controlling diagonal formations. It’s perfect for players who love geometric puzzles, set collection, and out‑thinking an opponent. Although limited to two players, the match is intense and full of tiny tactical dilemmas, making it an excellent filler or a satisfying end‑to‑night play.
