About the game
Imagine a game that takes the soul of Rummy, the feel of dominoes, and the strategy of chess, and turns it all into plastic tiles. That's Rummikub! Created by Ephraim Hertzano in the 1940s — even serving as an alternative when card games were banned in certain regions — the game became a global phenomenon and one of Israel's most successful exports. The premise is simple, but the execution is where the magic happens.

Each player starts with a pile of numbered tiles, and the goal is obvious: be the first to get rid of all of them. To do this, you must make 'plays' on the table. This can be done by creating numerical sequences of the same color (like red 4, 5, and 6) or groups of the same number in different colors (like three 8s). The real twist is the manipulation: you don't just place your tiles; you can rearrange everything already on the table to fit your remaining pieces.

At first, the match seems calm, almost a patience exercise. But as the table fills up, the game turns into a dynamic puzzle. You start looking at your opponents' tiles and think: 'If I move that 7 over here and split that group, I can play three tiles at once!'. It's this ability to restructure the board that transforms Rummikub from a simple number game into an intense mental duel. It's the kind of game that appeals to everyone, from grandparents to modern gamers, because the learning curve is fast, but the strategic ceiling is quite high. Whether playing with family or at a café with friends, the tension of who will 'go out' first is what keeps everyone glued to the table.
