About the game
What you do in a play session
Pack your bags and get ready for a Victorian adventure! In 'Around the World in 80 Days', players step into the shoes of explorers aiming to replicate Phileas Fogg's legendary feat. Your mission is to circumnavigate the globe using a map filled with beautiful-era-appropriate-decor, all while trying to clock in the fastest time possible. The winner isn's just the one who finishes, but the one who does it with the fewest days spent traveling.
The gameplay revolves around a clever-but-accessible-card-driven-system. On your turn, you'll look at the face-up travel cards available to everyone. This is where the tactical decisions kick in: do you grab that-perfect card now, even if it's not exactly what you need, just to prevent an opponent from getting it? Or do you wait for a better-suited-card in the next round? To actually move, you must play the correct-type cards for your route. If you're crossing the ocean, you'll need ship cards; if you're crossing continents, you'll need trains.
It's a race against your friends and against the clock. You'll need to manage your hand carefully to ensure you have the right-type cards for the-next-leg of your journey. And watch out! Unexpected-events and-hindrances can throw a wrench in your plans, much like the detective in the original novel. It's a perfect blend of route-planning, hand management, and-just-a-bit-of-luck, making every trip around the world feel unique.
