Astérix et les Romains

Astérix et les Romains is a fast‑paced, tongue‑in‑cheek race to gather the most Roman helmets. Each player moves a Gaulish villager from the Roman camp (drawing three cards) to the village and back, repeating the trek until the deck is exhausted. Along the way, classic Asterix obstacles appear: bard Assurancetourix forces everyone to retreat three spaces with his dreadful singing, and menhirs can make you stumble and lose a card. You can also strike a small Roman cohort for an extra card, and when two players land on the same space a tussle occurs, swapping a random card between them. The strategic choice lies in which die to roll – the slow die (1‑4) gives modest steps, while the fast die (3‑6) moves you quickly but lets any opponent shout “Exchange!” and swap hands with you. The 48 Roman cards are worth 1‑5 helmets each, but red cards showing caligae, shields or pilums score –1 to –5, so watch what you pick up. Play time is about 60 minutes, for 2‑6 players, with a light complexity (1.4/5), making it perfect for families and Asterix fans who enjoy a relaxed game with a dash of strategy and plenty of laughs.
