Get ready to take command in the North Atlantic! In Atlantic Sentinels, you step into the boots of the Senior Escort Officer during the critical window of 1942 to early 1943. Your mission is high-stakes: shepherd merchant convoys—typically consisting of 40 to 60 ships—safely across the ocean while hunting down menacing German U-boats. You'll command an escort group of 4 to 10 vessels, including destroyers and corvettes, and your primary challenge is tactical positioning. Where do you place your ships to protect the flanks, front, and rear of the convoy?
The tension peaks as you enter the 'Black Pit,' the central Atlantic gap where air cover is non-existent until the arrival of CVE 'jeep carriers.' Your survival hinges on the strategic deployment of Type 271 radars. As your career progresses, you can upgrade your group with additional radars, HF/DF (High-Frequency Direction Finding) gear, and even more ships to bolster your defense. You can choose from 9 historical escort groups, featuring British and Canadian fleets with period-accurate ships.
Gameplay is fast-paced, following a structured sequence of events, but random encounters ensure that no two careers ever feel the same. You'll face everything from lone Type VII or IX U-boats to the dreaded 'wolfpacks,' which grow in size and lethality as the game progresses. Weather conditions and crew experience also play a significant role in your success. For those who love tactical simulations, the game provides a deep experience with logical, straightforward rules. A great bonus: the game is designed to integrate with 'The Hunters' if you want to combine the two for an even more immersive experience. Whether you're setting up your defensive line or reacting to a surprise ambush, your goal is clear: keep convoy losses to a minimum and sink as many U-boats as possible.
