Game Objective: The Wild West in Dice!

Get ready for a duel of dice and bluffs in BANG! The Dice Game! In this electrifying game, each player assumes a secret role in the Wild West, with a very specific victory objective. You can be the Sheriff, who needs to eliminate all Outlaws and Renegades to maintain order. Or perhaps an Outlaw, whose sole purpose is to take down the Sheriff. The Deputies are there to protect the Sheriff at all costs, while the Renegades are lone wolves, seeking to be the last survivors to claim glory. Discover your identity, roll your dice, and may the most cunning win!

Setup: Arm Yourself for the Duel!

Let's set the table for chaos in the Wild West! Follow these simple steps:

  1. Distribute Identities: The number of Identity cards varies with the number of players. Shuffle the identity cards face down and deal one to each player.
    • 3 players: Consult the special rules for 3 players.
    • 4 players: 1 Sheriff, 1 Renegade, 2 Outlaws.
    • 5 players: 1 Sheriff, 1 Renegade, 2 Outlaws, 1 Deputy.
    • 6 players: 1 Sheriff, 1 Renegade, 3 Outlaws, 1 Deputy.
    • 7 players: 1 Sheriff, 1 Renegade, 3 Outlaws, 2 Deputies.
    • 8 players: 1 Sheriff, 2 Renegades, 3 Outlaws, 2 Deputies.
  2. Reveal the Sheriff: The player who received the Sheriff card turns it face up, revealing their identity. Other players look at their cards but keep them secret.
  3. Choose Your Character: Shuffle the 16 Character cards and deal one face up to each player. Each player must read aloud their character's name and unique ability.
  4. Take Your Bullets (Life Points): Each player takes the number of bullets (life point tokens) indicated on their character card. The Sheriff receives two additional bullets! The remaining bullets form a central pile. Remember, you can exchange 3-bullet tokens for three 1-bullet tokens (and vice versa) at any time.
  5. Summary Cards Handy: Keep the summary cards nearby to consult the dice results.
  6. Indian Arrows: Place the nine arrow tokens in a pile in the center of the table.
  7. Put Away the Rest: Return unused identities and characters to the box.
  8. The Sheriff Starts: The Sheriff takes the five dice and starts the game!

Game Turn: Rolling the Dice and Causing Chaos!

The game proceeds in turns, clockwise. On your turn, the action unfolds as follows:

  1. Roll the Dice: Start by rolling all five dice.
  2. Strategic Rerolls: You can choose which dice to keep and which to reroll, for a maximum of two times. If you decide to roll a third time, you can include dice you had kept before. The result of the third roll is final!
  3. Dynamites and Arrows:
    • Watch out for Dynamite: If you roll a Dynamite, it cannot be rerolled! If you roll three or more Dynamites, your turn ends immediately and you lose 1 life point.
    • Indian Arrows: Any Indian Arrow that appears must be resolved immediately, not at the end of the turn. Take an arrow token for each arrow result. If you take the last arrow from the pile, the Indians attack! Each player loses 1 life point for each arrow they possess, and then everyone discards their arrows. You continue your turn normally.
  4. Resolve Results: When you are satisfied with your rolls (or can no longer reroll), resolve the dice results in the following order:
    1. Indian Arrow: (Already resolved immediately after rolling, but remember its effect!)
    2. Dynamite: (Already resolved if there are 3 or more, but if there are fewer, it has no immediate effect other than not being able to be rerolled.)
    3. Target "1" (Target 1): Choose a player to your left or right to lose 1 life point.
    4. Target "2" (Target 2): Choose a player two spaces away (left or right) to lose 1 life point. If there are only 2 or 3 players, this result functions as a Target "1".
    5. Beer (Beer): Choose any player (including yourself!) to gain 1 life point. Remember that no one can have more life points than their initial maximum.
    6. Gatling Gun (Gatling): If you have three or more Gatling results, all other players lose 1 life point, and you discard all your arrows.
  5. End of Turn: Your turn ends and the game continues with the player to your left.

Running Out of Life Points: The Fall of a Cowboy!

When a player loses their last life point, they are eliminated from the game. They must reveal their identity and discard all arrows they possess. Eliminated players no longer participate, but if their team wins, they also win!

End of Game and Scoring: Who Will Survive?

The game can end in two ways, and victory depends on who is still standing:

  1. The Sheriff is Eliminated:
    • If a Renegade is the sole survivor, they win.
    • Otherwise, all Outlaws win as a team.
  2. All Outlaws and Renegades are Eliminated:
    • The Sheriff and all Deputies win as a team.

Important note: In 8-player games, each Renegade plays alone and only wins if they are the last survivor. If the Sheriff is eliminated when two Renegades remain, the Outlaws win!

Tips for Winning: Be a Smart Gunslinger!

To dominate the Wild West, you'll need more than just luck with the dice. Here are some tips:

  • Manage Your Arrows: Indian arrows can be a double-edged sword. Taking them can give you rerolls, but taking the last one can be devastating for everyone. Keep an eye on the central pile and the number of arrows other players have!
  • Use Your Rerolls Wisely: Don't waste your two rerolls! Think carefully about the results you need to achieve your goal. Sometimes, it's better to accept a mediocre result than to risk a Dynamite or a bad roll.
  • Attack the Right Target: As the Sheriff, focus on the Outlaws. As an Outlaw, the Sheriff is your primary target. Renegades should be more opportunistic, attacking whoever is weakest or whoever is a direct threat to their ultimate survival. Knowing identities (even if secret) and observing others' behavior is crucial!
