From there, you decide whether to "hit" (take more cards) to get closer to 21, or "stand" (stick with your current hand). The dealer, bless their heart, has to follow strict rules: they hit on 16 and stand on 17. If you go over 21, you bust and lose the round. If nobody busts, whoever has the closest score to 21 (without going over!) wins the bet. A natural "Blackjack" (21 with your first two cards) usually gives you a special win, paying out more.
