About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever imagined being the head of a family during the Renaissance, but with the morbid task of ensuring your relatives depart this life with as much luxury as possible? In Bring Out Yer Dead, the city's cemetery is the stage for a fierce competition. The Grave Keeper is a lazy fellow, and your job is to make sure your recently departed family members secure a spot in his cart before it fills up. If the cart runs out of space or the Grave Keeper decides he's done for the day, you're out of luck: any leftover coffins end up in the river, denied a proper burial and any influence points!

The gameplay blends a good dose of strategy with that dark humor we all love. You'll need to manage your actions to ensure your loved ones snag the best plots, accumulating influence for your family. But don't think it's just about burying and moving on! The game allows for early morning grave swapping, and if things get tight, you can even turn into a grave robber, pilfering jewelry from those already buried. After all, they won't be needing those accessories anymore, right? The competition is intense, and every choice matters in determining which family will be the most influential in the city.

With area control and open drafting mechanics, Bring Out Yer Dead is the kind of game that keeps everyone thinking about how to outmaneuver opponents without losing their edge. It's a quick, fun experience with a theme that, despite dealing with death, brings a comedic lightness that guarantees plenty of laughs at the table. If you enjoy games that mix planning, a dash of mischief, and an unusual theme, this one will earn a special place on your shelf—or rather, in your private cemetery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

6 questions
How long does a game take?
It's quite straightforward, taking about 40 minutes to finish, making it a great mid-weight filler.
How many players can play?
It works very well with 2 to 5 players, being more chaotic and fun with a full group.
Is it a very complex game?
Not at all; it has a weight of 2/5, meaning it's easy to learn and teach to any type of player.
Is the game too 'dark' because of the theme?
Quite the opposite! The theme is treated with sarcastic humor that removes all the weight of death, focusing on fun.
What is the main goal?
To accumulate as much influence as possible by burying your family members in the best plots and, of course, stealing some jewelry along the way.
Is it worth it for strategy game fans?
If you enjoy area control games with a dash of mischief, yes! But don't expect a super-dense Euro game.
