Canal Mania puts you in the shoes of an ambitious engineer during the British Industrial Revolution, building canals to connect growing cities. With route-building, resource management, and contract mechanics, each game is a logistical challenge full of strategic decisions. You'll compete with other players to create the most profitable canal network, transport goods, and hire famous engineers like Brindley and Telford. The game blends tile placement, multi-use cards, and a modular board that changes every game, ensuring replayability. Despite the historical theme, the mechanics are accessible and the game flows in about 90 minutes, perfect for fans of medium-weight eurogames with immersive themes.

Best player count?
Best with 3-4. More relaxed with 2, might drag a bit with 5 players.
Hard to learn?
Medium weight (2.8/5 on BGG). Eurogamers will grasp it quickly, but beginners might need 1-2 games to get all nuances.
Is luck a big factor?
Some luck in card drafting, but strategy outweighs it. You can win even with bad draws.
Good for Ticket to Ride fans?
If you liked TTR's route-building, maybe. But this is more complex and economic-focused.
Are expansions needed?
Base game is complete, but unfortunately no official expansions exist.
