About the game

What you do in a play session

Imagine you are the leader of a small dwarf colony, but there's a catch: your 'home' is just a tiny hole in the side of a mountain, and you only have two helpers. In Caverna: Cave vs. Cave, the challenge is to turn this humble beginning into a prosperous underground empire. Over the course of eight rounds, you will expand your cave, hire more dwarves, and dig deep to find precious metals.

The dynamics are quite interesting: each player has their own board, which starts almost entirely covered by face-down tiles. To find out what's there, you have to excavate. As you progress, new rooms and buildings appear, and you decide where and how to build them. Some rooms provide immediate bonuses, while others require specific actions to be activated.

The game starts with few actions per round, but things scale up! You begin with two actions and end with four, giving that feeling of a growing colony. The competition is intense, as you must balance space expansion, workforce management, and gold collection. In the end, the player with the best combination of constructed buildings and the largest pile of gold wins. It's the kind of 'euro' game where every decision counts, and long-term planning is essential to avoid falling behind in the mining race.
