About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to relive the Battle of Chancellorsville of 1863 with this card-driven wargame that puts you in command of Union or Confederate forces! Designed by Maurice Suckling, the game builds upon the foundation of Freeman's Farm 1777, adding a special twist with hidden movement and much more room for strategic maneuvers, making the experience truly unique. If you enjoy a good tactical and historical challenge, this one's for you.

In Chancellorsville 1863, each turn is a race against time and the enemy. You'll play one of your three formation cards from hand to maneuver your troops or launch an attack. Each card represents a Confederate division or a Union corps and grants you momentum cubes based on the activated formation. A major activation allows two moves, while a minor one gives you a single move. If your movement ends in a location with enemies, combat is inevitable! To give you an edge, tactic cards can be played during activation, providing movement or combat bonuses. At the end of the formation card activation, you can spend your momentum cubes to purchase more tactic cards, setting the stage for future turns.

Don't forget to replenish your hand with a new formation card, always keeping three options. And what about the great leaders like Hooker, Lee, and Jackson? They have powerful bonuses that can be used once per game, providing that crucial advantage in movement and combat. Victory can be achieved by destroying enemy formations, undermining their morale and strength, or, for the Union, by occupying the three strategic locations that cut off the Confederate army from Richmond. And for history buffs, the game even includes rules for fixed defensive positions, Jackson's famous Flank March, and even the possibility of his in-game death!
