About the game
What you do in a play session
Clockwork Wars puts 2‑4 players in charge of distinct factions – pure‑bred humans or hybrids such as Troglodytes, Rhinochs and Mongrels – in a world where magic clashes with steam‑age technology. Over seven tense rounds, each side fights for resource‑rich territories, upgrades villages into cities and progresses through three ages of discovery: Sorcery, Science and Religion. The modular hex board is assembled anew each game, and hidden, simultaneous unit deployment keeps the tension high. Combat is diceless, resolved by comparing strength and area influence, while worker placement determines the labor needed to expand your empire. A unique technology tree each play lets you research magical Golems, an Analytical Engine or the enigmatic Spire of the Gods, dramatically shifting strategies. In addition to a free‑for‑all, there’s an official 2‑vs‑2 team variant and a card‑driven espionage system that adds unexpected twists. With detailed miniatures, approachable rules and deep tactical choices, Clockwork Wars appeals to both civilization builders and wargame fans, delivering short yet decision‑heavy sessions.
