About the game

What you do in a play session

Coloma drops you into the dusty frontier of the American West, where a town exploded into a boomtown after a prospector found gold in the river. You arrive as a freshly‑arrived pioneer, ready to explore, mine, and build a business empire. The goal is to accumulate wealth, recruit workers, mount horses, and construct establishments that generate income over the course of the game.

What makes Coloma special is the blend of mechanics that demand strategic thinking and constant adaptation. All players select an action simultaneously, and if a majority chooses the same option, a “bust” occurs, negating a growth bonus. Then actions are executed in a variable order, and a small rondel rotates the action options each turn, changing the board layout. You can also use city cards to gain extra actions, adjust phase order, or even “cheat” the bust.

The “shootout” mechanic at high noon adds a risk element: you and the others must gather enough gunmen to defeat the bandits that appear. If you fail, the reward drops and some gunmen go to the graveyard. The game ends after the third shootout, and whoever has the most points, including end‑game bonuses, wins.

For fans of city‑building, resource management, and competition for scarce resources, Coloma offers multiple paths to victory. The solo mode lets you test your strategies against the game itself, while variable player powers ensure each session feels fresh. If you love the Western vibe and want a game that mixes planning, surprise, and a touch of luck, Coloma is a choice worth trying.

Robust components, a detailed map, worker tokens, city cards, and wooden bridge tiles add depth and replayability. The fast pace, coupled with crucial decisions each turn, keeps tension high and fun guaranteed.
