About the game

What you do in a play session

Die Siedler von Nürnberg is a Catan spin‑off that commemorates the founding anniversary of Nuremberg. Unlike the classic modular board, this game uses a fixed split map. One half features the familiar resource‑producing hexes where settlements are built; the other half depicts a close‑up of Nuremberg, where players construct workshops instead of upgrading settlements to cities. Workshops generate manufactured goods that can be exchanged for currency, which in turn funds the construction of walls and towers around the city, earning prestige points that count toward victory. Production is driven not by standard dice but by a special deck of cards that reveals the production number and occasional events at the start of each turn. The game mixes dice‑rolling (via cards), hand management, memory, and negotiation, demanding careful planning, savvy trading, and recall of which cards have already appeared. Playing time averages 90 minutes for 3‑4 players, with a light complexity rating (2.8/5). Components include the double‑sided board, production/event cards, currency tokens, wall and tower pieces, plus the usual roads, settlements and workshops. Victory points are earned from prestige, settlements, workshops and various bonuses. It’s a great pick for Catan fans who want a more thematic twist and less pure dice randomness, though the memory aspect may deter those who prefer a more straightforward experience.
