About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready for a breathtaking race in Downforce, a game that blends the adrenaline of the tracks with the tension of auctions and betting. Based on Wolfgang Kramer's classic Top Race, this 2-6 player game puts you in control of racing teams, where every decision can mean glory or failure. First, you'll participate in fierce auctions to acquire the cars that will compete in the race – and here the strategy already begins, because your car isn't always the only one that matters!

With the machines on the track, gameplay is driven by cards. You'll use the cards from your hand to move the cars, but be careful: many of them also benefit your opponents. The key is to find the perfect moment to play the right card, optimizing your movement while trying not to boost your opponents too much. In the middle of the race, the excitement increases with secret bets. You'll make predictions about who you think will cross the finish line first. In the end, whoever has the most money, combining race winnings, successful bets, and what's left of their starting bank, is the grand champion. Downforce isn't just about speed; it's about managing your hand of cards, bluffing in bets, and being cunning in auctions. On top of everything, the game received incredible visual treatment, with beautiful components and a design that facilitates immersion in the high-speed racing atmosphere. Oh, and the variable driver powers ensure that each game is a unique experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

6 questions
Is Downforce a pure racing game, or does it have more elements?
It's a brilliant mix! While racing is the central theme, Downforce incorporates auctions to acquire cars and a secret betting system that adds layers of strategy and interaction. It's not just about being the fastest, but also the smartest.
What is the average duration of a Downforce game?
A game of Downforce is quite fast-paced! It usually takes between 20 to 40 minutes, which makes it perfect for a quick session or to fit between longer games. The adrenaline is constant!
How many players is Downforce ideal for?
Downforce shines with 4 to 6 players, where the interaction in auctions and car movement becomes more dynamic and unpredictable. With 2 or 3, it works, but the 'who moves what' experience is a bit different.
Is it a complex game for beginners?
Not at all! Downforce is surprisingly easy to learn. The rules are simple and intuitive, allowing new players to quickly grasp the mechanics and dive into the excitement of racing and betting.
What makes Downforce different from other racing games?
The big difference is the card mechanic that moves multiple cars (including opponents') and the betting phase. You don't just control your car, but influence everyone on the track, creating interesting dilemmas and a lot of interaction. Plus, the variable driver powers add a special touch to each game.
Are there expansions for Downforce?
Yes! Downforce has several expansions that add new circuits, driver powers, and even mechanics, increasing the replayability and variety of your races. It's worth checking out if you fall in love with the base game!
