About the game
What you do in a play session
Grand Prix is GMT Games' second foray into open‑wheel racing, built on the Thunder Alley engine but tweaked for a true Grand Prix feel. It accommodates 2‑11 players, each controlling a two‑car team or, for extra chaos, additional non‑scoring cars that act as NPCs to help or hinder opponents. Every race fields a full grid regardless of player count, preserving the authenticity of a real‑world event. Gameplay revolves around cards: you manage your hand, pick tires, decide when to pit, and cope with wear, rain and crashes. Scoring works two ways – individual scoring rewards the top ten finishers, while team scoring adds up the placements of all cars in your stable. The rules are moderately complex but easy to grasp, with the real depth coming from the blend of hand management and ever‑changing track conditions. Components include circuit boards compatible with Thunder Alley, action cards, tire tokens, wear markers and a results spreadsheet. Replayability is high thanks to variable weather, tire choices and pit‑stop strategies that can swing the outcome dramatically. The game shines with large groups craving a championship atmosphere, yet it also scales well for tight duels. If you love Formula 1 simulation without the hassle of pricey miniatures, Grand Prix delivers the thrill of a GP in a card‑driven package, fast‑paced and full of player interaction.
